Faster & More Sustainable Planning ⚡
vyzn enables informed decisions for ABZ

The replacement construction of the district Kanzlei by the Allgemeine Baugenossenschaft Zürich (ABZ) aims to increase the number of apartments from 150 to over 200. The project sets high standards for sustainability and will make a positive contribution to the quality of life in the neighborhood.

Challenge

  • Identify sustainable construction methods in the preliminary project that meet the housing subsidy requirements of the City of Zurich.
  • Compare construction methods in terms of CO₂ emissions during creation and costs, with a focus on floor slabs.
How much savings does timber construction provide?

Solution

  • LCA App

Results

  • 3D/BIM models evaluated (in IFC format) and areas calculated using vyzn's AI.
  • Multiple project variants created and compared: hybrid construction (massive structure, wooden facade) and two timber construction variants.
  • Automated calculation of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and embodied energy.
  • Transparent results show that timber construction causes about 20% fewer GHG emissions compared to hybrid construction. However, the cost analysis indicates that timber construction is 5% more expensive.
  • Fast, data-driven evaluation that supports informed decision-making and forms the basis for further planning.

As a non-profit housing cooperative, ABZ builds and operates in a socially, economically, and ecologically sustainable manner. The focus is on people, not profit.
